Some Office 365 subscriptions let you install Office on up to five PCs and/or Macs, and you can arbitrarily uninstall and reinstall as often as you want. (If you’re on Mac, the current full Office version is Office 2011, but that will soon be upgraded to the more capable Office 2016 for Mac.).
Has launched the latest version of its productivity suite, Office 2019, for Windows and Mac users as a one-time purchase option. While the company has been encouraging users to its cloud-based subscription service, Office 365, in order for them to access Office apps and regular feature updates, it realises some people still simply want to buy Office like the used to: once - that's it - with no subscription fee. 'We recognize that some customers can't move to the cloud in the near term,' it explained. 'We want to support all our customers'. So, the company is rolling out Office 2019 for Mac and Windows. You can purchase the suite once and use it as much as you want, but you won't get feature updates. Microsoft said Office 2019 includes a 'meaningful subset of features that are found in Office 365', and it's not part of Office 365.
Although this Office 2019 software won't be continually updated, it will receive 'quality and security updates'. Here's what you need to know.
Microsoft What is Office 2019?. Office 2019 is an upgrade to Office 2016. (OneNote is free and available outside of Office, regardless of platform). Office 2019 has some features found in Office 365, a cloud-based subscription service that also provides access to Office apps. However, paid Office 365 subscribers will notice they have several unique perks over on-premise Office 2019 users, including an Editor in Word, Designer in PowerPoint, Ideas in Excel, real-time collaboration across all apps, shared computer licensing, continual feature updates, and more. Microsoft said it plans to do additional releases post Office 2019, despite its primary focus of moving customers to Office 365. Is Office 2019 different from Office 2016?

Subscribers to Microsoft’s Office 365 service — which includes Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote and Excel — are about to get some serious limit increases with regards to both the number of devices they can install the software on, and the number of users allowed to access the account. In a, the company writes that beginning October 2, Office 365 Home will see their device limits completely removed. That means instead of being limited to installing the software on a total of 10 devices, it’s now an unlimited number of devices for both subscriber tiers. Apps and services included with Microsoft Office 365 The upgrade to unlimited devices applies to both Office 365 Home and Personal subscribers, the latter of which was previously limited to one PC or Mac and one tablet. Microsoft is also increasing the number of licenses it provides to Office 365 subscribers. Office 365 Home, which requires a $99.99 per year fee, previously restricted users to a total of 5 unique users.
Beginning October 2 Microsoft is adding an additional license. That makes the value proposition even more attractive considering each license also includes 1TB of Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage. Additionally, each license will be able to sign into 5 devices simultaneously. Yep, that means technically 30 devices at the same time for an Office 365 Home package. All of these changes will not effect the current price structure, and the upgrade will be implemented automatically. Another notable change to Office 365? You’ll finally be able to manage your subscription on the Microsoft Account portal instead of having to sign into Office.com.
For Windows and Mac users the Office 365 service was already a compelling deal, especially the Home tier. While there are a wealth of free or cheaper alternatives, Office is still the standard for both business users and consumers — even if that’s sometimes grudgingly admitted.
Microsoft hasn’t commented on why it’s removing these limits or beefing up the license number for its Home tier, but this move should make a lot of people happy. After all, it will affect more than 30 million subscribers and well north of 120 million users. It will almost certainly attract new subscribers as well. If only I could run it natively on Linux.
